SMEC Eyewear grew from the frustration of being unable to find unique, and well-made eyewear from local brands. With a background in jewellery design combined with gold and silversmithing, Meg took matters into her own hands and launched SMEC Eyewear — the creative, bold solution to lacklustre mass-produced frames.

Self-described as extremely loud and incredibly motivated, Meg brings big ideas to each design as she crafts locally-made, accessible eyewear.

SMEC eyewear is designed and brought to life from a small home studio in Western Australia and can be shipped anywhere in the world. Our frames are crafted locally with each pair hand-assembled. We believe in creating frames for life, not just for trends.

The Frames

SMEC Eyewear exclusively uses lightweight titanium for frames that go the distance. Paired with an innovative aluminium hinge design, SMEC Eyewear frames are designed to last.

At SMEC, we use Zeiss lenses for their incredible longevity and durability.

Eclectic can’t be pinned down as “one direction”. As we take our designs from rough sketches to tangible frames, we draw inspiration from films, music, art, and fashion across different eras. Simply put, if something catches our eye or plays on our mind, there’s a good chance a frame will come from it.

Playing with colours, forms, and silhouettes is a core of the SMEC design process — we love experimenting with new ideas and never finalise a design until we’ve looked at it from every angle.

FOR CUSTOM FRAMES

The process for custom frames is much the same, but it’s less “us” and more “you’. We consider your tastes, personality, and influences, and incorporate these with the iconic SMEC style you initially came to us for. We see eyewear as an extension of your personality and want you to feel comfortable as soon as you slip on your custom SMECs.

OUR STORY SO FAR

In 2016, our inaugural Bloom Collection propelled our brand forward with six captivating designs, inspired by flowers, places, and people of great importance to Meg. Over the last eight years, SMEC Eyewear has continued to evolve in its creative progress, with countless prototypes, product tests, redesigns and so much more.

At SMEC Eyewear’s core, the drive is not only to produce handcrafted eyewear, but also to build relationships with those who appreciate considered product design. With a world already full of “stuff”, it’s important to intentional products that are designed with both aesthetics, functionality, and quality at the forefront.
